Leadership Opportunities To Serve On NIGP Board

Apply For Board Seats That Expire June 2007

Each year, the two-year terms of approximately half of the NIGP Board expire in conjunction with the end of the fiscal year on June 30th. While incumbent Board members are eligible to serve for a total of three consecutive terms, all eligible national members can apply for any Board seat that becomes available at the end of each term.

The Board seats that will be vacant on June 30, 2007 are: (incumbents who are eligible for re-election are noted where applicable):

•  Region 1 representing the States of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts,
New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont (Paul Brennan,
   incumbent seeking re-election)

•  Region 2 representing the States of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and
Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia (Ed Grant, incumbent and NIGP’s
   First Vice President, seeking re-election)

•  Region 4 representing the State of Virginia (Mike Bacile, incumbent who
is ineligible to seek re-election due to term limits)

•  Region 5 representing the States of Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina
(Debra Green, incumbent and NIGP’s Second Vice President, seeking
   re-election)

•  Region 7 representing the State of Florida and the Territories of Puerto Rico
and the Virgin Islands (Kirk Buffington, incumbent seeking re-election)

•  Region 8 representing the States of Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska,
North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin (Patti Huth, incumbent who is
ineligible to seek re-election due to term limits)

•  At-Large Seat 15  (Patti Wallace, incumbent who is not seeking re-election)

For this 2007-08 election, it should be noted that there are three Board seats where there will be no incumbent on the ballot: Region 4 (Virginia), Region 8 (Midwest) and At-Large Seat 15.

Board terms run on a two-year cycle from July to June, and Board members can serve a maximum of three (3) consecutive terms unless also elected as an Officer of the Institute.  For the seats listed for the 2007 elections, the elected candidates will serve a two-year period from July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2009.

At a minimum, Board members must commit to three face-to-face Board meetings each year at various locations plus the possibility of occasional telephonic meetings.  Board members also serve as committee liaisons to a specific committee so attendance at committee meetings is compulsory.  NIGP does not reimburse Board members for the cost of travel to Board meetings or for teleconference meetings.  All expenses are the responsibility of each Board member.  The Board member's governmental agency is strongly encouraged to financially support these travel and teleconference expenses.

To be eligible to serve on the NIGP Board of Directors, the candidate shall:

1. Hold national membership in NIGP either as an employee of a national Agency
Member or as an Individual Member who is currently employed in a public
    procurement agency.

2. Hold either a current CPPO or CPPB certification or hold a current certification
issued by a professional purchasing organization recognized by NIGP.

3. Live within the geographic boundaries of the region if seeking election to
    a regional seat.

If you are interested in serving on the Board and meet these minimum eligibility requirements, you can either apply for the At-Large Seat or for a seat located within your region.

The application process includes the following items be submitted by interested candidates:

•  A Letter of Interest
•

•  Current Resume
•  Short Essay on why the applicant aspires to join the NIGP Board

   procurement professionals
