 Wow! What a busy month! Everyone ready for the holidays?
I’d like to wish you and your families a very joyous, safe and happy holiday season! During the past few weeks, I have started making the rounds to the chapters in the region. I had the pleasure of joining both the Southern California Chapter (President Joe De La Cerda) and the Grand Canyon Chapter of AZ (President Scott Richardson) to discuss their chapter goals, accomplishments and challenges.
Both chapters offered some wonderful ideas on how we can continue to grow this region and how NIGP can provide increased support to chapters. It was wonderful to meet with and learn from both of these chapters. Thanks so much for having me!

NIGP Recognizes Knowledge Community Leaders |

Knowledge Communities grew from the desire of NIGP members to connect with peers who work in areas of similar focus. Through community-specific online discussion groups, members can reach out to one another for advice, share successful and not-so-successful experiences that provide support and a connection that is as unique as each member. Each Knowledge Community has leaders who provide support and expertise in planning webinars, seminars and the annual TIPPS symposium.
The three NIGP Knowledge Communities include procurement technology (eProcurement), K-12 education procurement (K-12) and procurement's response to emergency preparedness (PREP).

NIGP Unveils Executive Certificate in Public Procurement |
The Executive Certificate in Public Procurement reflects a professional’s commitment to excellence in the field and their pursuit to master a body of knowledge. The certificate is designed for professionals who have an existing foundation of experience and coursework in procurement and wish to enhance their learning potential and market value through advanced theoretical and practical procurement knowledge.
The Executive Certificate in Public Procurement provides the framework for Executive Certificate candidates to be formally recognized for their achievement in one of five procurement specialties:
• Contract Management
• Leadership
• Planning
• Solicitation Development
• Supply Management
The program utilizes the Capstone Experience which synthesizes all of the learning outcomes into one final opportunity for case studies and research. The culmination of the capstone experience is a presentation by candidates of independent research papers offered for evaluation and critique by other candidates and a FAU profession. These research papers can be considered as manuscripts to be submitted to the Journal of Public Procurement (JoPP) published by the Public Procurement Research Center (PPRC). Once all coursework is completed and the candidate has successfully participated in the capstone experience, an Executive Certificate in Public Procurement will be awarded in the area of concentration.
The Executive Certificate in Public Procurement is a certificate program produced by accomplished faculty from NIGP and Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Students who have successfully attained either the Certified Public Purchasing Officer (CPPO) or the Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) designation are eligible to enroll in this program.

In the Know: NIGP Government Contractor Certificate Program |
 The Government Contractor Certificate (GCC) Program is designed specifically for private sector contractors who desire a greater awareness and understanding of public procurement processes and the government purchasing environment.
Knowledge and understanding of public sector contracting laws, principles, policies, and practices eliminate confusion and help to ensure quality offers and proposals as well as improve communication between the buyer and seller. GCC Program seminars are taught by subject-matter experts and purchasing practitioners.

UPPCC: Certification Fees Increase in January 2008 |
Effective January 1, 2008, new CPPO and CPPB certification fees go into effect. View the new fee structure at

The UPPCC has made public a variety of program changes scheduled for 2008, which include implementing a new body of knowledge and transitioning to computer-based exams by October 2008. While the UPPCC undergoes its much anticipated transformation leading up to October 2008, it will continue to accept applications for the current programs through March 31, 2008.

UPPCC Reminder: Fully Certified Agency Award Deadline Fast Approaching |
The Universal Public Purchasing Certification Council (UPPCC) Fully Certified Agency Award program is an annual award. Interested agencies must apply by the end of the 2007 calendar year in order to receive recognition for their 2007 achievement.
For an organization to be eligible to receive this award, every procurement professional employed by the agency must hold an active certification conferred by the UPPCC (CPPO or CPPB). Agencies having only one individual who is solely responsible for the procurement process are also eligible.
