NIGP's Treasurer Resigns Due To Economic Conditions

Governance Committee Will be Seeking Interest from Qualified Candidates

The difficult local, state and global economic conditions have dealt another blow as NIGP’s Treasurer, Chris Klein has submitted his resignation.  In his resignation letter to President Paul Brennan, Mr. Klein stated that, due to “the economic conditions enveloping our country, and more specifically, the financial crisis within the State of California, which is being passed on to local governments my entity is no longer economically capable of supporting my participation within the organization.”

All persons serving on the NIGP Board of Directors, including the Treasurer, attend three business meetings each year including one meeting during the annual NIGP Forum.  The travel costs for these meetings is borne by the Board member; either through his/her public entity or through personal funds.

NIGP’s Governance Committee, which serves as the Institute’s nominating committee, will discuss the recruitment process for the new Treasurer when it meets next week during the NIGP Forum in St. Louis.  The Governance Committee will then publicly announce, through a future edition of the Buy Weekly, the process for submitting qualifications.  In the interim, questions can be sent to either Ken Koester, Chair of the Governance Committee, at koester_k@hccanet.org or to Rick Grimm, NIGP’s Chief Executive, at rgrimm@nigp.org

During this interim process, NIGP’s Third Vice President, Bobbi Matthews, will serve as Acting Treasurer.

The Institute is grateful to Chris Klein for his leadership on the NIGP Board and our Finance and Budget Review Committee and wishes him the very best as his entity and state continue to seek the best solutions to their economic crisis.
