Save Money & Relationships: Alternative Dispute Resolution
ADR is all the things litigation is not.
It’s faster, less expensive, creates unity rather than conflict, and provides win-win outcomes.
The use of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) at all levels of government is growing as the time, costs and risks of litigation increase. ADR provides creative and flexible ways of resolving disputes while improving communications and preserving relationships with the involved parties.
NIGP's Alternative Dispute Resolution course provides procurement professionals the basic understanding required to evaluate ADR processes and start your own agency program. Learn how to effectively infuse a dispute resolution methodology into your solicitation and contract, and how to implement the appropriate alternate dispute process to quickly resolve contract-related disagreements.
Course highlights include:
• ADR pros and cons
• When to use ADR
• Major ADR approaches and when each is appropriate
• How to start an ADR program
The next Alternative Dispute Resolution class is December 6 - 7 and will be presented by Alan C. Bodine, CPPO, CPPB, in Austin, Texas. This class is hosted by the Texas Association of Public Purchasers Chapter of NIGP. To register, email cindy.wilson@puc.state.tx.us. .
Experience this two-day course and learn how to save money and relationships! Chapters or agencies that would like to host this course should contact lgaffney@nigp.org or complete the 2007-2008 Seminar Request Form.

Miami-Dade County Florida Mayor Carlos Alvarez, the Board of County Commissioners and county staff congratulate Commissioner Rebeca Sosa for receiving the first-ever award for Public Official of the Year from the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing, Inc. The county Director of Procurement Management, Miriam Singer, presented Commissioner Sosa with the prestigious accolade on behalf of Thomas Blaine, president of the NIGP Greater Miami Chapter, during a special presentation at County Hall last month.
Commissioner Sosa was thanked by her colleagues for her dedication, service and leadership in procurement reform. Commissioner Sosa's dedication to improving the procurement processes of Miami-Dade County has resulted in a modernization of procurement ordinances, administrative orders, and procurement policies. Her interest and dedication has also increased the ethics and professionalism of County procurement staff and has resulted in the County receiving the NIGP Outstanding Agency Accreditation Achievement Award and the Pareto Award, the highest award that can be given for outstanding performance in public procurement and the most prestigious form of peer recognition.
